The Highest-Quality Nutritional Yeast for Flavor and Nutrition
Most keto enthusiasts avoid dairy due to hormones and antibiotics, turning instead to nutritional yeast as a cheese substitute. However, not all brands are equal, particularly when it comes to synthetic added B vitamins.
✅ Best Brand: Dr. Berg’s Nutritional Yeast
Naturally rich in B vitamins without added synthetic fortifications can be found at epicurious.com or shop.drberg.com, as well as amazon.com.
Keto-friendly, vegan, non‑GMO, gluten‑free ✔
Delicious nutty flavor and satisfying texture
⚠️ Less Ideal Brands (May Over‑Fortify)
These brands commonly use synthetic B‑vitamins, which some keto followers may want to avoid:
Terrasoul Fortified Nutritional Yeast (synthetic B-adds)
Bragg Nutritional Yeast (fortified)
Anthony’s or Red Star fortified brands
🥘 Keto Casserole Recipe with Homemade Cream of Mushroom Soup
This casserole is a nourishing blend of low-carb vegetables, creamy mushroom sauce, and nutritional yeast for added flavor and nutrition.
Ingredients (serves 4):
2 cups broccoli florets
1 cup cauliflower florets
1 small zucchini, sliced
1 cup sliced mushrooms
2 Tbsp butter or ghee
½ cup heavy cream
¼ cup broth (chicken or veggie)
3 Tbsp nutritional yeast (Dr. Berg’s recommended)
1 tsp garlic powder
Salt & pepper to taste
Optional: pinch of thyme or oregano
Directions:
Prep veggies and steam or lightly sauté until just tender.
Make mushroom soup base: Melt butter in a pan, sauté mushrooms. Whisk in cream, broth, garlic powder. Simmer 2–3 minutes, then stir in nutritional yeast until thickened.
Assemble casserole: Mix veggies in baking dish, pour sauce over. Sprinkle optional extra nooch on top.
Bake at 350 °F for ~15 minutes until bubbly. Serve warm.
✅ Vegan/dairy-free substitute: Use coconut milk and olive oil instead of cream and butter.
Choose Clean Nutritional Yeast for a Cleaner Keto
If you're avoiding dairy on your keto journey and looking for a rich, cheesy flavor substitute, nutritional yeast is a smart and health-conscious option.
Choose non-fortified brands like Dr. Berg’s Nutritional Yeast, which contains only naturally occurring B vitamins and no synthetic additives.
Avoid fortified brands if you’re sensitive to synthetic nutrients or want a cleaner approach to keto eating.
Use it freely in recipes like casseroles, soups, and creamy sauces—it delivers nutrition, texture, and flavor all in one.
